Lower School staff participated in professional development activities this week following our early release. Some teachers attended the required training to administer the LEAP test, some analyzed data to inform their instruction, and everyone chose one of four sessions on Conscious Discipline. Having time to engage in professional development is greatly appreciated.
Mr. Barrau got us all up and dancing at Friday's Morning Meeting! So much positive energy!
For Friday of the LLS fundraising week, we wore red - in honor of blood cancer patients and a shared love to find a cure. The red is also a reminder of the crawfish we'll have Saturday at the annual Willow School Crawfish Boil.

On Tuesday, kindergarten students shared artwork created after listening to the Marsalis family play jazz music. This was a delayed presentation from Black History Month. Thanks, Kindergarten!
There was a lot of blue and gold on Tuesday, our school spirit showing that we're unified!
Those naughty leprechauns! They made quite a mess in the kindergarten classrooms - and not a one was caught! As one kindergartener said, "We may have to spend all day cleaning up!" Shenanigans!
Happy St. Patrick's Day! We saw lots of green and gold at Morning Meeting, and heard special Irish music with Mr. Hausman and guests. Mr. Smith reminded us to be mindful and shared strategies. It's also the start of a week of raising funds and awareness for LLS, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - so show your "heart of gold" and donate!
The traps have been set! The kindergarteners designed some spectacular leprechaun traps, hoping to catch those little mischief makers. We'll see on St. Patrick's Day if any leprechauns were caught!

Julius, a 4th grade TAT student, interviewed two classes for Thankful Thursday this week. Students in Mx. Ureta's fourth grade purple class were thankful for: dino nuggies, Sponge Bob, hamsters, sports, family, soccer, Fortnite, brothers, neighbors, sleep, weekends, friend, K buddies, Mx. Ureta, music, moms, the supportive Willow community, and the 4th grade team. Ms. Sessum's 2nd grade class was thankful for: football, soccer, family, friends, technology, Nintendo, the universe, air conditioning, health, dads, getting a dog soon, animals, Taylor Swift, the Willow School community, baseball, video games, students past and present, the 2nd grade team, sons, and crawfish. We're thankful for a lot!
Lagniappe classes continue to inspire creativity! You may spot students writing and playing music on keyboards, growing veggies in the garden, making art out of recycled bottles, creating beaded wands, and playing games!
The Fourth Grade hosted Black History Month presentations, sharing what they learned about changemakers, past and present. Students chose how to present their research - video, podcast, artwork, slide show- and then shared some amazing facts and findings with peers, families, and staff.
First grade hosted their annual Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Parade before Mardi Gras break! The floats were so creative and fun and the crowds were encouraging and loving the spirit! Thanks, First Grade!
On Thankful Thursday, Armani and Kennedy, our 4th grade TAT students, checked in with Ms. Boyer's kindergarten class and Ms. Maloney's 2nd grade class. They were thankful for, among many other things: soccer, Willow, friends, family, Ms. Boyer, Earth, nature, animals, the Super Bowl, cats, love, basketball, dogs, Hot Wheels, the Elephant class, beautiful Mardi Gras weather, God, transportation, dino nuggets, Taylor Swift, video games, pizza, art, books, a week off, crafts, great teammates, and Earth Explorers. We're grateful for SO MUCH!

The Willow Golden Lion is on the move again! Staff members bestow the fabulous lion necklace on each other, identifying why each new recipient is deserving of the honor. Officer Carr passed the necklace on to Ms. Denise, for always taking care of us and being so positive. Ms. Denise gave it to the entire kindergarten team, for working so hard together, and for the school. Ms. Silverman gave it to Ms. Hingle, for being a wonderful example of conscious discipline. Ms. Hingle bestowed it upon Mrs. deVeer, for being a responsible and reliable teammate, ready for anything. Where will the Golden Lion go next?!
For Black History Month, Ms. Weston's 1st grade class introduced us to many important people and ways that we can be the change. Thanks, Butterflies!

Mr. Hausman and Ms. Agostinho's 3rd grade homeroom performed "L'il Liza Jane" on Tuesday, both singing and playing strings instruments. They did an amazing job after a short exploratory rotation. Bravo!
