Occupational therapists and physical therapists from Ochsner Hospital visited Mr. Alvarado's 6th grade Project Lead the Way (PLTW) engineering classes this week. The therapists discussed their jobs and how they use tools and toys to help young patients reach their therapeutic goals. They talked about their day to day, why they became OT's and PT's, how they use their tools, and what they use ankle foot orthotics for. They shared with the students orthopedic toys or other models of assistive technology. The students used the toys, asked questions about the therapeutic goals, and examined a real foot orthosis. This semester, the students will design therapeutic toys. The toys the students design will be given to patients at Ochsner Hospital. Stay tuned for more details about this upcoming project!
